Since a RFID working group was founded in May 2007, draft documents regarding the positioning of and system parameters for passive transponders on rigid industrial packaging (draft DIN 6113) are now available.

During a meeting on 21st October 2008 at the German Association of Metal Packaging (VMV) in Düsseldorf, experts will discuss the draft standard. It consists of several chapters and shall soon be handed over to Standards Committee NA 115-02-03 AA "Tight head and open top steel drums" for final decision making and publishing. A first milestone in obtaining standards for RFID on packaging will thus be achieved.

Interpack trade fair 2008

At the annual international trade fair Interpack - the world's leading fair of the packaging industry - that took place in Düsseldorf 24th - 30th April 2008, prototypes of drums equipped with UHF tags were presented at the stand of SULO Emballagen GmbH. Visitors were able to gain closer insight into the improved performance of RFID System Listopac.

„RFID is a particular subject for us. We are now able to present and demonstrate the new generation of our RFID System Listopac in Düsseldorf. It is now possible to track and trace palletised drums in bulk at gateways. Control of logistics is getting more and more important. By extending our existing RFID transponder system a substantial progress has been achieved” says Henry Freudenreich, the managing director of SULO Emballagen GmbH.

The philosophy of an open, unpatented system has been pursued further. Commercially available, passive standard UHF tags were placed in a newly designed chip nest. Tests demonstrated that information of palletised drums were scanned within several metres distance at the goods issuing department. For further information please contact the info centre.
